Attorney General John Ashcroft says each of the four planes was hijacked by 3 to 6 people, armed with knives and box cutters, who made bomb threats. Ashcroft also said several of the hijackers were trained as pilots in the United States. Robert Mueller, FBI director, says that contrary to reports no arrests have been made related to the hijackings, but interviews have taken place.
